Lorin Barnes

Lorin D. “Dennis” Barnes, 67, passed

away on Dec. 29, 2011, at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton,

Wash., with family by his side.

Dennis was born on March 14, 1944, in

Whitefish to Jane (Smith) Barnes and Lorin Barnes. He was raised in

Whitefish where he attended high school. 

He received his Bachelor of Science

degree from the University of Montana on June 9, 1968. 

He was united in marriage with Susan

Kay Gruber on Aug. 15, 1987, in Whitefish, and made his home in

Bremerton.

Prior to moving to Bremerton, Dennis

lived for a few years in Seattle and used his superb skills in

carpentry to build the Boat Shed in the late 1970s with his partner

Rich MacDonald. One year while working at the Boat Shed, he decided

to take his 16-foot boat back and forth between Bremerton and

Seattle for an amazing 365 days. At one point he was co-owner of

Sinclair’s restaurant with Rich MacDonald. As a general contractor

he performed numerous jobs in the area and, due to word-of-mouth of

his meticulous nature there, was never a shortage of work.

Dennis loved camping, boating and

vacationing with family and friends. He was known for his

infectious laugh. Dennis will be remembered for his loving nature,

generosity, and love for life.

He is survived by his mother, Jane

Barnes; his wife, Susan Barnes; his children, James Gilbert, Angela

(Gruber) Kolbein, and her husband “Sandy” Kolbein, Tory Gruber and

Maja Nelson; three grandchildren, Jessica, Hayden and Tatum; and

numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law,

and wonderful friends. He also leaves behind a loving dog named

Buster. 

Dennis was preceded in death by his

father, Lorin Barnes; and his brother, Douglas Barnes.

Arrangements are entrusted to

Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. 

All who have been touched by Dennis are

encouraged to attend the celebration of his life that will be held

from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, at the Eagles in Bremerton.
