Bigfork High School’s speech and drama team kept up their winning ways with the drama side of things taking a first place finish among the Class B and C schools, and speech taking second in last weekend’s competition in Whitefish.

Loyola’s speech team took the first place finish away from Bigfork, but Bigfork coach Charlie Appleby said it was good practice for the team.

“It’s always good to go up against Loyola in any meet as they are the fiercest speech competitor for B/C schools,” Appleby said. “I was happy with how all of our kids did.”

Maddie Lorang took first place in memorized public address and second place in expository on the speech side. Isaac Reichner took eighth in memorized public address and seventh in impromptu. Mielle Hubbard took third place for her expository speech.

Olivia Witt and Camas Garnett continue to place high with their humorous duo in drama and took first place in Whitefish. Danny McVay took third for his humorous solo, Sarah Abbot and Emily Pataky took sixth for their classical duo and Brett Bradstreet placed eighth for his humorous oral interpretation.

Appleby said he took four new competitors to the competition this weekend and was pleased with how they performed.

“All four did exceptionally well,” Appleby said. “Which shows the Bigfork speech and drama team has a bright future.”
