Bozeman-based marketing firm MercuryCSC is no longer handling the Montana Office of Tourism’s social media work after an employee accidentally posted a very personal message on the very public Montana Facebook page.

“F this job, I just want to live in Whitefish with my family and my future husband,” the MercuryCSC employee wrote on the Office of Tourism page last Friday. “Leaving Bozeman for good tomorrow.”

She goes on to mention her future husband, a Whitefish local.

“I love you with all my heart and you are not leaving me. Never. Thanks for the good times MercuryCSC!”

MercuryCSC removed the post as soon as it was discovered. However, the damage was done. With more than 150,000 followers of the Montana Facebook page, the “F this job” message had gone viral.

It was picked up by media outlets and spread around on news sharing websites like Gawker.

MercuryCSC stated they no longer have administrative rights to the Montana Facebook page, and the firm is no longer performing social media work for the Office of Tourism.

While the post proved to be damaging to the marketing firm, its viral nature led to a spike in new “likes” for the Montana Facebook page.

One Montana fan said he came to the Facebook page after learning of the viral post.

“I have to admit, I came here because of the Whitefish post circulating around. Very nice pics though! I love all the mountain scenery,” he wrote.
