Volunteers are needed at the Flathead Shelter Friends’ Saturday adoption events. Various shifts are available for setting up the table and display, transporting and walking the dogs, and running the information table during Saturday afternoons. Shifts are a couple of hours long.

FSF is a nonprofit group committed to raising funds and awareness for the Flathead County Animal Shelter. Every Saturday they host an adoption event at Petco in Kalispell in an effort to find homes for the shelter’s animals.

The group also needs help with cleaning the cat kennels at Petco, this is where the shelter keeps cats that are up for adoption. It needs to be done once in the morning and then again in the evening before the store closes. It takes less than 30 minutes to clean the kennels, replace the food and water and give the cats some extra attention.

For more information about volunteering with FSF, contact Julie Kenagy at 890-9296 or jlkenagy@gmail.com.

In other Flathead County Animal Shelter news:

• The Flathead County Animal Shelter recently received a grant from the ASPCA that provided the funding for two microchip scanners for the Flathead County’s Animal Control Officers. The microchip scanners will provide the Animal Control Officers the ability to scan stray animals for microchips with onboard computers in their vehicles.

The use of the microchip scanners will greatly enhance the shelter’s efforts to return microchipped pets to their homes more quickly and efficiently.
