Blake Weimer hit a 75 on Saturday to take second at the Thompson Falls Invitational at River’s Bend Golf Course. At the Ronan High School Golf Invitational last Thursday the Bigfork boys team took seventh with a score of 355.

Bigfork’s golf team is still struggling with low numbers at tournaments and was unable to field enough for a girls team score at either invitational. In Thompson Falls, the boys didn’t have enough players to get a boys team score either.

But those that did go to the tournaments are playing well. In Ronan, Wiemer and Lars Gittings both hit an 82, putting them in the top 15 at the tournament. Maddie Lorang hit a 106 on the girls side, which also put her in the tournament’s top 15.

“They’re coming around,” said Bigfork golf coach Steve Hullet. “I was happy with them.”

In Thompson Falls, Gittings and Ryder Trent both hit into the top 15. Gittings had an 82 and Trent hit an 87. The tournament was Trent’s best so far this season. So Hullet is confident the team will continue to improve as the divisional and state tournaments draw closer.

Sara Keenan took third on Saturday with a 93 and Lorang put in a 113 for fifth place.

Next up for the golf team is a low-key practice round with Stillwater Christian at Eagle Bend on Thursday before next Tuesday’s Seeley-Swan Invitational.
