To vote in this year’s election in Flathead County, a person must be 18 years old or older on or before the next election, be a U.S. citizen, have resided in Montana and Flathead County for at least 30 days, and be registered to vote.

To register, visit the Flathead County Election Office in the Old Courthouse in Kalispell on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., fill out a voter registration form available on the election office’s Web site or at many local government agencies or fill out a voter registration form when renewing a driver’s license. Voter registration forms must be postmarked or received by the election office at least 30 days before the election.

For late registration — anytime after the close of regular registration — residents must appear in person at the election office up to and including election day, fill out a voter registration card and use a ballot provided by the election office staff.

Absentee voters may vote in person during a period beginning 30 days prior to the primary or general election. If unable to appear in person, the voter may request that a ballot be mailed to him or her by submitting a written request bearing the signature and birth date of the individual for whom the ballot is being requested.

Absentee voting closes at noon the day before the election. Any ballots mailed to a voter must be returned by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
