Canyon bike path fundraiser a success
The Gateway-to-Glacier Trail Steering Committee would like to express our gratitude for a successful fundraiser at the Stonefly Lounge on April 14. Because of the generosity of many business vendors in the north valley, local artisans and community members, the evening was a great success. Thanks to all the people who attended for an evening of good food and great music.
We’d like to thank so many people and businesses including the Daily Interlake, the Hungry Horse News and their associated papers, the Flathead Beacon and KAJ-TV for providing press coverage prior to the event, the Stonefly Lounge for providing the venue, the Belton Blues Band for donating their time and talent with great music, and Piggy Back BBQ for delicious food.
Auction and raffle items were donated by many local businesses including Fun Beverage, Windflower Native Plant Nursery, the Huckleberry Patch, the Shops at Station 8, Montana House, Three Forks Grille, Norms News, Hungry Horse Liquors, Hammer Nutrition, Glacier Cyclery, the White Room, Great Northern Cyclery and Runner-Up Sports.
In addition, we received hand-crafted and other items from local artisans and craftsmen including Sharon Logan, Becky Lomax, Stacey Bengtson, Donna Davis, Iola Breneman, Lynn Smith, Steve Hall, Sherrie and Neal Miller and Bill Bryan. Every item was greatly appreciated. The spring fundraiser success helps move us along on our path to success.
The Gateway-to-Glacier Trail mission is building a separated, paved bike and pedestrian path along U.S. 2 connecting Coram at Seville Lane to West Glacier under the BNSF Railway overpass. In addition to organizing this event, a dedicated group of local residents from West Glacier to Columbia Falls has been busy applying for grant funding, requesting donations from the community and planning other events.
Mark your calendars for our next event, the second annual Brewfest on July 14 on the lawn at Heavens Peak Restaurant on U.S. 2 in West Glacier.
We still have a long way to go toward creation of this path. We’re in need of volunteers who are passionate about outdoor recreation and would like to assist with our progress. In particular, we need folks who can assist with grant applications and engineering specifications.
