Scout paints playground maps

Boy Scout Logan Carr spent a good chunk of his summer on painting projects for both Glacier and Ruder elementary schools.

Carr repainted the United States map on the playground asphalt at Ruder and then painted a whole new U.S. map, complete with all the states, on the playground at Glacier Gateway.

The second map was a little trickier. He had to use plastic to create a template of the existing map at Ruder and then transfer it over to Gateway. He also painted new hop-scotch and other square games on the pavement.

All of the free labor was part of the 16-year-old's community service element as he works toward his Eagle Scout badge.

Carr, a sophomore at Columbia Falls High School, is one of seven children, the son of Mike and Mary Carr. He's been in Boy Scouts since he was eight, and his two older brothers, Mike and Richard, are Eagle Scouts.
