Caring for those who sacrifice

November is a month for appreciation to the service men and women of today and the remembrance of those veterans alive or resting.

Montana Supporting Soldiers has teamed up with Adopt a Soldier in their continued support of deployed troops from all branches of military.

MSS, created in 2003, is a non-profit organization focused on deployed military troops, particularly those who are not receiving mail or support from home.

Adopting approximately 1,000 troops at a time, the volunteers at MSS send care packages throughout the year to all branches of military.

This service to U.S. service people and their families is possible through the donations and contributions of businesses, organizations and individuals alike.

And like a reflection of the season, MSS enjoys giving as well as receiving. Last year MSS raised $7000 in contributions to various community organizations.

Currently there are three operations seeking support: Jingle Bells, Thank You and Skivies for Wounded.

Operations Jingle Bells and Thank You encourage sending care packages with goodies from home and a note of appreciation.

A third program in place is Operation Skivies for Wounded. When soldiers are wounded in battle quite often their clothing is damaged and disposed. If evacuated to a field station or Germany they often arrive in only gowns or blankets. Operation: Skivies for Wounded collects clothing of all sizes that is new and unused.
