Lady netters finish fourth

The Lady Bulldog netters came back from

the divisional tourney in Libby with more wins and points than

they’d hoped for. Whitefish earned 14 points as a team and finished

one point out of third place.

“That’s about where I hoped we’d be,”

coach Patrick Dryden said. “Going in, we had a goal that each girl

would win one match, and we came pretty close to that.”

Freshman Simone Craft won three matches

and finished in the top-8 to lead the Lady Bulldogs. She scored

about half of the team’s points.

“The future bodes well for her,” Dryden

said. “She had some long matches that came down to grit and

endurance. She frustrated her opponents by getting all the shots

back.”

Dryden commended the doubles team of

Ryan Chauner and Haley Craven.

“They won a couple of matches but then

ran into a hometown pair of Loggers that were on a hot streak,” he

said. “Sometime you just have to compliment the opponent.”

Laura Turco also showed tenacity on the

court and made it to the quarterfinals.

For a young team looking to the future,

Dryden is pleased with the experience gained at the tourney.

“The kids got a good taste of the

divisional atmosphere,” he said. “We got our feet wet. We should

have the same group coming back. Hopefully we keep working hard

throughout the summer.”
