Supporters for construction of a new bike and pedestrian trail from Coram to West Glacier will meet at the Heavens Peak Lodge and Resort, 12130 U.S. 2, in West Glacier, on Monday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m.

Organizers for the Gateway to Glacier Trail say they need to raise more than $100,000 to match grant funding for trail construction. Fundraising efforts will take place this summer.

U.S. 2 from Columbia Falls to West Glacier has increasingly become a popular route for bicyclists, organizers say, but the narrow shoulders and vehicles’ high speeds make the trip hazardous for both motorists and bicyclists.

A separated bike and pedestrian trail currently exists from Hungry Horse to Coram. Organizers would also like to extend the trail west through Badrock Canyon when the highway is rebuilt.
