Fairbank resigns as girls hoops coach

Columbia Falls girls basketball coach Dan Fairbank has tendered his resignation.

Fairbank said he expected to coach about four years and he did just that. He also said he wanted to watch his younger daughter play, rather than be her coach next season when she starts high school.

It's time to hang it up.

"I hit all the goals I wanted to," Fairbank said.

Under Fairbank, the team has gone 30-2 in conference play over the past four seasons and they won three straight divisional titles.

Aside from wins and losses, Fairbank said he wanted to establish a summer camp for girls and to make a stronger connection with the Columbia Falls Junior High teams and their coaching staffs.

The varsity program went 0-2 at the state tournament and finished the season 13-9 overall.

The junior varsity program finished the year at 10-6 and with just one conference loss.

JV coach Jim Peacock has been with the Columbia Falls program for the past five years and has had several successful seasons. Would he be interested in the post?

Peacock said he really hasn't had time to think about it or talk it over with his family. Fairbank resigned last Friday.

The search for a new coach will begin immediately, said John Thompson, Columbia Falls High School Athletic Director.
