Dorothy O'Brien

Dorothy O'Brien, 93, of Kensington Calif., died May 13, 2011.

She was born in Tulare, Calif., and grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended the University of California-Berkeley and graduated with a bachelor's in economics in 1938.

Dorothy worked for many years as a librarian at the Kensington Library and as a social worker for Contra Costa County. She lived in her house in Kensington for 64 years and was active in numerous school and community activities over the years.

After her retirement, she volunteered at Planned Parenthood, served on the board of directors on both the Richmond Emergency Food Pantry, and the Friends of the Library in Kensington.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert and daughter Marian.

Dorothy is survived by her son Dan and daughter-in-law Lynn, of Kensington; son-in-law Gene Sajcich; and granddaughters Patricia O'Brien, in Missoula, and Erin Toscano, in Vancouver, Wash.

She greatly enjoyed spending 25 summers in Montana at the family cabin on the North Fork of the Flathead River and visiting her friends.

Private services have been held.
