Jonkel to give talk on bears

Chuck Jonkel, founder of the Great Bear Foundation, will teach a special program, "Honoring the Great Bear: The Life and Works of Chuck Jonkel," on Thursday, July 28. Jonkel has been teaching bear classes for the Glacier Institute every year since 1983.

This special program will tie the content of his longstanding one-day offering "Glaciers Grizzlies and Black Bears" with his personal involvement in bear research for more than 50 years.

The morning program will be held at the Glacier Park Field Camp, followed by short walks in the old growth cedar-hemlock forests around the Avalanche Campground area. All travel will be on existing trails. Leave no trace ethics will be discussed and practiced.
