Whitefish sends seven to Butte

Seven Bulldog grapplers have earned a

trip to the Class A state wrestling tournament this weekend — the

most Whitefish has sent in a number of years.

Kaleb Mohn, Kyle Tracy, Tristan

Armstrong, Zech Derks, Marcelo Theodoro, Jacob Forrest and Wolf

Zinke all punched their tickets to Butte with solid performances at

the divisional tourney last week.

Whitefish coach Ryan Boyle says he has

realistic goals for the young team as they take the mat against the

top grapplers in Montana.

“The goal is to go down there and win

some matches,” Boyle said. “This is the first state tournament for

all of the guys except Wolf, but I know we can get some wins. I

think we can get two guys to place if they wrestle to their

potential.”

Each of Whitefish’s wrestlers will

start the tourney against No. 1 seeds — an advantage, Boyle

suggests.

“The No. 1 guys are looking past us,”

he said, “so that’s the best time to get an upset.”

The coach commended Theodoro’s

performance at the divisional meet, noting that the senior exchange

student wrestled as hard as he has all year.

Boyle said Auston Bergeson and Robby

Neff both put up good fights but fell in the final 10 seconds of

the third round to miss a chance at state.

“They couldn’t quite pull it out,”

Boyle said. “They wrestled hard and went after it.”

The team finished the regular season

with 18 wrestlers still on the roster, marking a positive sign for

the team’s future.
