The Frenchtown Broncs beat the Columbia Falls wrestling team by the slimmest margins last week in a Dec. 20 dual, 36-34.

The Cats got wins from Shonn Roberts (105), Cody Hader (125), Adam Richardson (135), Bryan Schaffer (145), Kohl Thompson (152) Jacob Babcock (215) and heavyweight Wayde Motichka.

Motichka and Roberts are freshmen but have been wrestling well for the Cats heading into the Christmas break. Coach Jesse Schaeffer said he was pleased with both boys.

"They're both wrestling well," he said.

The wrestling went farther than just the dual - the Cats also had a mixer event with Polson and Anaconda while they were in Frenchtown. The bus didn't get back until 1 a.m.

"It was a good night of wrestling," Schaeffer said.

The Cats had a good chance to win the dual, but many of the matches were lost by pins. Schaeffer said it's something they'll work on over the break. The Cats also need to take care of a few injuries and refine their techniques in practice over the next 10 days while school is out.

The boys will return to action with a dual in Whitefish on Jan. 5. Wrestling will start at 6:30 p.m. The dual is a good time to catch the team close to home before the next home match on Jan. 19, when they face Libby and Eureka.
