The Columbia Falls speech and debate team amassed 191 points and took first place at the Libby Invitational meet on Dec. 3. Polson was second with 51 points.

Mary Gross and Allison Foust, Kaitlin Barnes, Mason Gedlaman, Meredith Stolte, Mara Barnes and Chance Morine all had first-place finishes.

"This tournament marks the halfway point in the season, and we still have a lot of work to do," coach Tara Norick said. "The freshmen and sophomores are really contributing to the overall success of the team."

"This week," she continued, "17 out of 24 students placing in finals were freshmen and sophomores. I am really proud of the work they have done to this point, and we are continuing to focus on consistency in their performance."

The team travels to the Missoula Invitational this weekend.
