Inside North Fork Road still closed

Glacier National Park's Inside North Fork Road probably won't open in its entirety until at least the end of this month, Park spokesperson Denise Germann said last week.

The road has been closed from Fish Creek to Logging Creek because of a slump and washout damage, Germann said. Crews are still waiting for water levels in some streams to drop so the damage can be repaired, she said. Germann said she didn't know the exact locations of the damage.

The road has had serious problems in the past. A contractor fixed a slump in the road several years ago. Anaconda Creek also causes problems because it has left its main channel and now flows in several small channels. In past years, crews put in culverts to make the road passable over the small channels.

The affected section of the Inside North Fork Road provides access to trailheads for Howe Lake, Howe Ridge and Camas Creek. The oldest road in the Park, it also provides an alternative route to Polebridge.
