The 2011 Whitefish Garden Tour, the brainchild of Bonnie Hannigan, with support of the Whitefish Community Garden, has become a reality. Slated for late July, the tour will include professionally landscaped gardens, private individually designed gardens and local urban farms.

The Whitefish Community Garden, located behind the United Methodist Church on Wisconsin Avenue, was founded in 2009. It promotes self-sufficiency and low-impact lifestyles by providing space for individuals or families to cultivate their own vegetables.

The organization also supports local youth volunteerism and education and provides fresh food to North Valley Food Bank. Working with local partners, the tour hopes to inspire Flathead Valley gardeners to get started now on their own garden designs.

Garden tour organizers hope to offer a rare opportunity for residents to view and talk with gardeners at some of the valley’s finest and most uniquely laid-out gardens.
