Kats cruise over Corvallis, Pirates

The Columbia Falls girls soccer team had two dominant performances last week, downing Corvallis away 10-0 last Thursday and Polson 3-1 at home last Saturday.

The Wildkats have made some adjustments both defensively and offensively and the moves seem to be working.

Against Corvallis, McKenzie Kiser, Danielle Delventhal and Julia Burgi all had two goals apiece. Cedar Jordt also had a goal as did Melissa Livingston, Madison Sandefer and freshman Andrea Getts. The Kats tallied up 21 shots to Corvallis's five.

Kiser continued the onslaught against the Pirates, scoring two goals on corner kicks early to put the Kats up 2-0, both on feeds from Jordt. Kiser also had a header and another shot on a corner kick that just missed or she would have had the hat trick on corners, coach Greg Trenerry said.

Delventhal scored an insurance goal to put the Kats up 3-0 at the 60-minute mark.

While the offense has been pouring it on lately, the defense, particularly stopper Cortney White, has played well, Trenerry said.

Polson had just eight shots and their lone goal came on a direct kick that took an odd bounce and went over keeper Niesha Thompson's head.

The Kats will turn around and play the Pirates again today (Thursday) away.

"If we get the win, we've got a playoff berth locked up," Trenerry said.

The Kats are back to full strength. Elena Potter played against Polson after coming off an ankle injury and Burgi has a sore back, but she can play.
