The Columbia Falls girls soccer team opened their season by drubbing Bigfork 5-1 at home Tuesday.

Coach Greg Trenerry emptied the bench in the conference matchup.

"It was good to start out the season with a win," he said. "We played everyone. (But) we still have some work to do."

The Kats scored early when forward McKenzie Kizer at the 12-minute mark dumped in an easy shot after the Bigfork goalie muffed the ball.

Bigfork would answer with a goal of its own at the 16:25 mark, but it was all Kats after that.

Elena Potter scored at the 34-minute mark on a sweet shot from about 35 yards out to make it 2-1 at the half.

In the second half Danielle Delventhal scored twice and Julia Burgi scored in at the 81-minute mark to seal the win.

Potter, who is playing center this season, assisted on the final two goals.

The Kats out shot the Vals 15-5. Keeper Kira Kamrud had three saves for the Kats in the second half.

The girls travel to Belgrade and Livingston this weekend for matches Friday and Saturday.
