Whitefish Theatre Company will present Charles Ludlum’s “The Mystery of Irma Vep” with shows on June 3-5 and 10-11, all at 7:30 p.m. Nancy Nei directs veteran actors Phelps L’Hommedieu and Tony Hernandez in this campy tribute to melodramas and mysteries, Ludlum’s most famous play. The two actors play eight roles in this gothic spoof set in a Victorian mansion and an Egyptian tomb. The production is the theater company’s annual Cabaret Theatre, with table or mezzanine seating, and food and drink available for purchase. Tickets are $18 adults and $16 seniors and students, all seating reserved. Appropriate for older students and adults. Sneak preview tickets are $8 for general seating. Lakeside painter Sarah McConnell will be the featured artist The Purple Pomegranate for the month of June. She will be on hand to display her work during First Thursday Gallery Nights on Thursday, June 3, from 6-9 p.m. A third-generation Montanan, McConnell has been an artist and teacher for more than a decade. Her work is sold in many galleries throughout the U.S., and she is the author of “One Big Beautiful Bead,” published by Lark Books in 2007. Ceramic artist David Smith will display his press-molded stoneware exhibition “The Arlo Series” at Whitefish Pottery for First Thursday Gallery Nights on Thursday, June 3, from 6-9 p.m. Smith is a professor of art at Edgewood College, in Madison, Wis. He’s had a passion for wood-fired ceramics since 1978 and was renowned Montana artist Rudy Audio’s last graduate student.

An Older Americans Day Picnic will take place inside the Expo Building at the Flathead County Fairgrounds in Kalispell on Friday, June 4, with doors opening at 10 a.m., entertainment at 10:30 a.m., burgers and the works at 11:45 a.m. and RSVP volunteer recognition at 12:15 p.m. All senior centers in the valley will be closed and there will be no Meals on Wheels that day. Whitefish Convention & Visitors Bureau will offer a free Montana Superhost customer-service workshop, “Passport to Service,” at The Lodge at Whitefish Lake. Sessions will take place on Friday June 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants will learn to connect with customers, be an effective travel counselor, build skills for effective communication with challenging customers and co-workers, understand the economic impact of tourism in Montana, and commit to personal steps to make a difference. The Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation will celebrate the 18th annual National Trails Day on Saturday, June 5, with trail work on Skiumah Creek Trail in the Great Bear Wilderness. The project is co-sponsored by the American Hiking Society and Montana Conservation Corps. Volunteers will meet at the Hungry Horse Ranger Station at 8 a.m. and then clear logs and brush and help to install retaining structures to prevent erosion. A tailgate barbecue will follow at the Hungry Horse Ranger Station from 4-6 p.m. with all the food and fixings provided by the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation. Area residents will soon have the opportunity to safely dispose of unused prescription and other medications at various sites around the valley on Saturday, June 5. Collection sites for expired or unwanted medications include the Flathead City-County Health Department in Kalispell and North Valley Hospital on June 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Flathead Chapter of the Montana Native Plant Society will lead a tour of the Johnson Mountain Terraces on Saturday, June 5, a 3-4 mile cross-country hike along a series of moist, mossy rock terraces with a variety of diminutive plants. In celebration of National Trails Day on Saturday, June 5, the Foys to Blacktail Trails and Montana Conservation Corps is seeking volunteers to help with construction and maintenance of new trails in and around Herron Park. The trail work will begin at 8:30 a.m. and wrap up by 3 p.m. Volunteers will need to bring hiking or work boots, gloves, a sack lunch and water. The Flathead Conser­vation District will hold a “Living by Water Work­shop” on Saturday, June 5, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a tour of the Suncrest Homeowners Association’s project on a creek near Whitefish Lake that shows restoration with native plants. Participants will learn how riparian areas help maintain water quality, control erosion and much more. Lunch and a complimentary information packet will be provided. The workshop is sponsored by the Flathead Lakers, with the Flathead Conservation District and the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. The Fish Trails 5-kilometer race is scheduled for Sunday, June 6, at noon at City Beach. All proceeds go to the Fish Trails bike path organization. Lunch will be provided by Amazing Crepes. The Whitefish Community Orchestra will perform “Music! The Magic Beyond All We Do Here” at The Springs at Whitefish, 1001 River Lakes Parkway, on Monday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m. The free concert will feature both classical and traditional pieces, including “Largo” from Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” and Sarabande and Badinerie by Corelli.
