Keeping the Village spirit alive

For those who think of Bigfork as a summer oasis that shuts down in the winter, things are changing – or at least trying to.

When I've asked local organizers about the new events they were planning in January, February and into March this year, the answers were always the same: We need something to do in the winter to remind people we're still here.

The initial numbers from this revived effort to show that Bigfork is alive year-round look good. Two sold-out shows on Valentine's Day and a crowded Electric Avenue for Brewfest all brought more than a thousand people in to see what Bigfork has to offer.

But to keep that momentum going, the work should not be over. People need to be reminded again and again and again that Bigfork is still here.

A few events on their own won't do that. And, all the pressure to keep coming up with the activities that will draw people to the Village shouldn't rest on a few community members' shoulders.

It will require continued community-wide efforts to keep and maintain the image of Bigfork as a town for all seasons.
