The “Whitefish Review” will hold a reception for issue No. 7 at The Lodge at Whitefish Lake on Thursday, June 24 (today), outside by the lake under the tent pavilion from 7-11 p.m. Local author Laura Munson will read from her new book, “This Is Not The Story You Think It Is: A Season of Unlikely Happiness.” Issue No. 7 includes interviews with Munson and acclaimed author John Irving, along with recorded dialogue between Rick Bass of Missoula and Doug Peacock of Emigrant. Local student work includes an essay by Whitefish High School junior Stella Holt, as well as the winners of the Authors of the Flathead Student Writing Contest. Terrapin Farms and Third Street Market will sponsor a free showing of Deborah Garcia’s 2005 documentary “The Future of Food” at the O’Shaughnessy on Thursday, June 24, at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided, and a discussion will follow the showing on topics covered in the film, including genetically-modified organisms.
Friday
The Whitefish Chamber of Commerce will hold its 14th annual golf tournament at Whitefish Lake Golf Course on Friday, June 25, with a four-person scramble and prizes for hole-in-one, low score net and gross, longest putt, closest to pin and others. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at 1 p.m. Cost is $60 for Whitefish Lake Golf Club members and $100 for others, carts not included. Saturday
The 33rd Whitefish Lake Run will take place on Saturday, June 26, with buses leaving City Beach at 6:45 a.m. for the 10K run down East Lakeshore Drive. The 5K run will start at City Beach. Both races will start at 8 a.m. Runners must register in advance. The National Parks Conservation Association will host a reception at the Great Northern Brewery on Sunday, June 27, from 5-7 p.m. with live music by Nuevo Columbia to celebrate the Glacier Park centennial and recent successes in protecting the North Fork. Suggested donation is $20 per person. Epicocity’s award-winning film “Flathead Wild” will be shown from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wildlife presentations will be made by John Weaver, Doug Chadwick and Trip Jennings. Seating is limited. Reserve seating can be made at all Montana Coffee Traders locations.
Monday
A new committee that has begun work on gathering ideas for the future of Whitefish High School will hold four workshops on goal planning, program options, program resolution and concept design. Meetings will be held in the high school library from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 28.

Flathead Family Planning will offer free and anonymous HIV testing, educational materials and opportunities to discuss questions and concerns related to HIV transmission and risk on Tuesday, June 29, at the Flathead City-County Health Department Family Planning office, 1035 First Avenue West, in Kalispell. Of the more than 1 million Americans now estimated to be living with HIV, one-quarter do not realize they are infected. Walk in testing is available all day from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments can be scheduled in advance by calling 751-8150.

The Whitefish Library Book Discussion Group meets the last Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the library meeting room. Books may be available for checkout.
