The Humane Society of Northwest Montana in Kalispell is holding a volunteer orientation session on Saturday, July 31 at 11 a.m. to learn how to help improve the lives of homeless cats and dogs at the society. The Montana House and the Glacier National Park Fund are co-hosting a book signing with photographer and author Bret Bouda. This event will be at the Montana House on Saturday, July 31 from 2 to 5 p.m. and is open to the public.

The annual meeting of the North Fork Preservation Association will be held at the Sondreson Community Hall at Whale Creek Saturday, July 31. At 7:30 p.m., Dr. Charles Jonkel, world-renowned bear expert, will be speaking on “Bears I Have Known” and “Old-time North Forkers.” The 7:30 p.m. program is preceded by a potluck at 5 p.m. and election of officers at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited. The deadline to enter the 4-H and FFA livestock competitions and events at this year’s Northwest Montana Fair must do so by Monday, Aug. 2 at 4:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds office. Entry forms are available at the fair’s website at www.nwmtfair.com , the fairgrounds office, and in the back of the 2010 premium book.
