Wailers, N. Lights sweep tourney

Whitefish women's ice hockey teams made a clean sweep at the Flying Mules Tournament in Missoula on Jan. 15-17.

Both the A team Wailers and the B team Northern Lights knocked off three challengers in a row before winning the championship game in their respective divisions.

The Wailers topped teams from Denver, 6-0, and Missoula, 7-1 and the Missoula Ice Hounds, 1-0, before knocking off a team from Spokane, 3-0, in a tough battle with lots of aggressive play.

The Northern Lights cruised with wins over Jackson Hole, Wyo., Helena and McCall before beating Jackson Hole, 3-0, in the finals.

Five teams from Whitefish attended the tournament, including the two women's teams. The men's team took fifth place.
