Holiday thanks

| January 28, 2010 10:00 PM

A big thank you to those who turned out on Sunday, Jan. 24, to take down, transport and store all the city Christmas decorations at the Armory.

Thanks to the Flathead Electric Cooperative drivers, Pat Muri, Al Thorsen, Dan Rowe and his son Taylor, the Whitefish High School Honor Society students led by Norma MacKenzie, and many faithful adult volunteers who show up every year to make this event possible. Thanks to you all.

Not satisfied

While our organization has requested but not yet received a copy of the final report from the Moonlighting Detective Agency concerning Flathead County's investigation into the activities of its planning director, Jeff Harris, and his office, it is our understanding that in that final report that Harris and his office is absolved of any wrongdoing.

If this is true, then given the facts in this matter, Flathead County has significantly "lowered the bar" in terms of the future treatment county property owners can expect when it comes to the county recognizing, respecting and protecting their rights as property owners.

Such a conclusion regarding Harris and his office can only be based on "political" considerations, not the preponderance of evidence presented to the county commission that led to the county's undertaking of the investigation in the first place.

Such a conclusion clearly demonstrates that the written opinion of the office of the Flathead County Attorney that Harris and all other county employees are under no legal obligation to provide "honest government services' is clearly in full force and effect in Flathead County.

This is not a conclusion that county property owners will find acceptable.
