Selfless and anonymous acts of kindness

During the holiday season, I witnessed many, many acts of kindness and service which truly demonstrate the heart of our schools and community working together.

I am fortunate and grateful to routinely see the selfless and anonymous act of many students, staff, parents, residents and community groups who individually and/or collectively do good for others. It's individuals like these who create that caring nature and small-town feeling which makes our school community the wonderful, unique place that it is — not only during the holidays but all year long.

Our fantastic PTA and CARE organizations provide a variety of activities and events as well as funding for invaluable school materials and/or student programs and activities that make a difference each and every day in our classrooms. Thank you for all you do.

We have outstanding classroom volunteers who "always show up" and give countless hours to make a difference with our kids. Thank you. You do not go unnoticed. Also, a big thank you to our student council groups and clubs for contributing their time and effort to our food bank and other organizations.

And last but not least — January is School Board Appreciation Month, so a big thank you to our board members who contribute hundreds and hundreds of volunteer hours each year leading the Whitefish School District.

The time spent in board meetings represents just a small fraction of the hours school board members spend leading in our district. They also work hard to keep up with the latest trends in educational leadership. Although they wear many hats in the workday world, school board members put on a collective hat when they get down to the business of leading the school district.

This is our time to make a special effort to tell each school director that his or her hard work has been noticed and is truly appreciated.

Jerry House is the superintendent of the Whitefish School District.
