The deadline passed last week to run for one of the two open seats on the Bigfork Land Use Advisory Committee, and only one person filed with the Flathead County Election Department.

Chuck Gough, current BLUAC member, will run for re-election. Since he was the only one to file for the May 4 elections, no election will be held.

The other seat, held by Darrel Coverdell, will remain open after the position expires May 31. According to the committee's by-laws, public notice will then be given for 30 days for applications for the position. Then the committee will vote to appoint a community member to the seat.

The committee will still need to select a member-at-large, which is an annual appointed position. This will also be noticed for 30 days after current member Al Johnson's term expires in May.

BLUAC advises the official Flathead County land use decision-making boards and the Flathead County Commissioners on applications and proposals for development projects and growth in the Bigfork area.
