Randonnee ski racers and firefighters Ben Parsons, of Whitefish, and Brandon French, of Kalispell, will present a side show in the KM Theater, above Reds Wines and Blues in Kalispell, on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. A $10 donation will be requested at the door. French, the U.S. Ski Mountaineering Association’s national champion, won the Jan. 23 Whitefish Whiteout Race Ski Mountaineering Race on Big Mountain. He and Parsons will travel to Europe as members of the eight-man U.S. team.

A presentation on “Building Green Homes for Today and Tomorrow” will be presented in the Flathead Valley Community College’s Arts & Technology Building, Room 139, on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. as part of the free Re-Powering The Flathead series. Parents Let’s Unite For Kids (PLUK) of the Flathead Valley will hold its eighth annual Flathead kids theater event and silent auction with a “spring break get-away” raffle. Performances will take place on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Salvation Army Church in Kalispell. Tickets are $5 adults, $3 seniors and students and $12 families of four available at the door or by calling 270-1086. All proceeds will go to help children with disabilities and their families.

The Glacier Institute will offer “Kintla Valley: A Predator’s Shangri-La,” a weekend course scheduled from Friday, Feb. 19, to Sunday, Feb. 21, in the North Fork near the Canada border. This course will explore hunting behavior and prey escape strategies. Nights will be spent at The Way Less Traveled Bed and Breakfast near the Canadian border. Participants will ford the North Fork River in waders and cross-country ski to Kintla Lake, stopping often to look at tracks, scats and kill sites. Program instructor Kyran Kunkel earned his Ph.D. in wildlife biology from the University of Montana. The course fee is $500 and includes lodging, meals and snowshoes. A benefit concert for earthquake victims in Haiti featuring local artists will be held Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Glacier High School Performance Hall at 7 p.m. The Musical Night For Haiti fundraiser will showcase music by Rob Quist and Jack Gladstone, and other local talent. Rani Arbo and Daisy Mayhem will perform at the O’Shaughnessy on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. The crackerjack East Coast quartet features fiddle, guitar and standup bass — along with a suitcase bass drum and tin can cymbals played by an ex-rock and zydeco drummer. Fiddler and lead vocalist Rani Arbo spent 12 years leading her critically acclaimed New England bluegrass group Salamander Crossing before forming Daisy Mayhem. The Boston Globe recently described their genre-leaping music as “neo old-timey with cosmopolitan splashes of contemporary pop and jazz.” Tickets are $27 and $20 with reserved seating. Big Mountain Commercial Association will hold its annual Winter Winefest as a fundraiser for the SNOW Bus at The Lodge At Whitefish Lake on Saturday, Feb. 20, from 6-9 p.m. There will be music, appetizers and a silent auction. Glacier Symphony and Chorale will present “Escapades and Temperaments,” a rare classical saxophone concerto with guest artist Ashu, at Flathead High School auditorium on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 21, at 3 p.m. A free bus from Whitefish will be offered on Saturday, boarding at 6 p.m. at the Whitefish Mountain Mall parking lot. Works will include “Escapades for Alto Sax and Orchestra,” by John Williams, based on the score from the 2002 film “Catch Me If You Can,” and “Fantaisie sur un Thème Original,” by the 19th century French composer Jules Demersseman. The Flathead Spay & Neuter Task Force will offer three specials in recognition of Spay Day USA 2010 on Tuesday, Feb. 23. Pit bulls/pit crosses will be $20, dogs over 40 pounds are $20 and female cats are $15. Task Force president Mimi Beadles said the nonprofit altered 3,249 animals in 2009 and more than 17,000 since it opened the first non-profit spay neuter clinic in Montana eight years ago.
