The deadline is approaching to run for the two open seats on the Bigfork Land Use Advisory Committee this year.

The election will be held May 4, but candidates for the two three-year positions need to file by Feb. 18.

The committee advises the official Flathead County land use decision-making boards and the Flathead County Commissioners on applications and proposals for development projects and growth in the Bigfork area. It includes six elected members and one appointed member-at-large.

Candidates, including incumbents who hope to serve again, must be registered voters in the Bigfork Zoning District for a minimum of two years. They must file a petition of nomination signed by at least five electors of the district as well as an affidavit of person circulating the petition and an oath of candidacy.

Those who sign must give their local address and be registered voters in the Bigfork Zoning District. These forms must be submitted to the Department of Elections, located at 800 S. Main Street in Kalispell.

The Election Department will verify that the candidate and those signing the affidavit are, in fact, registered voters in the area. Forms may be picked up at the Flathead County Election Office.
