Lady 'Dogs drop two

The Lady Bulldogs basketball squad

continues to look for its first win after dropping consecutive

games last week to Glacier and Polson high schools. The ‘Dogs fell

61-18 against the Class AA Wolfpack and 57-23 to the Lady Pirates,

dropping their overall record to 0-4.

“Glacier is bigger, stronger and faster

than us, and we didn’t handle their pressure very well,” Whitefish

coach Sean Duff said.

The ‘Pack were up by 24 at halftime and

out scored Whitefish 26-7 in the second half. Shannon Craft lead

the team with six points.

“They switched things up defensively,

and we didn’t recognize that,” Duff said. “I think that comes with

experience.”

Against Polson, Duff chalked it up to

poor shooting.

“We still aren’t shooting the ball

well,” Duff said. “We missed seven layups and were 9-23 from the

line in the first half.

“Polson is picked to win the

conference, and we’re down 17 at the half. If we hit a few shots

here and there, we’re not down by so much. We could build on those

little successes.”

The coach said the team needs to work

on passing into the post and beating full-court pressure with

bounce passes. Forty-two tipped passes killed their chances against

the Pirates.

“We’re telegraphing our passes,” Duff

said. “We’re looking right where we’re going to pass it, and that

goes back to the basics.”

Bright spots came from the team’s

improving rebounding and their free-throw chances.

“We’re getting to the line,” Duff said.

“That shows we’re doing something right.”

The coach wants to see improved

presence in the post and more scoring chances for center Olivia

Curtiss.

“She’s in there, and we’re not getting

the ball into her,” he said. “We have to get the ball inside and

handle that inside pressure.”

He noted Olivia Nagler’s continued

leadership and spirit, and Jessica Poe’s effort against Polson.

Whitefish next faces Frenchtown and

Flathead on Jan. 7-8.
