Mae Stella Grantham Corcoran

Mae Stella Grantham Corcoran entered into rest on July 30, 2010 at the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls. Mae was born on Sept. 11, 1919 in Logansport, Ind., to Otto and Solpha (Gaumer) Grantham.

As a young girl she moved with her family to the Sheridan County area in eastern Montana. From that time on she moved several times back and forth to Thompson Falls settling in the Flathead in 1949. She made her home in Martin City for a time then moved to the Deer Park area.

She married Clifford Levang of Scobey, and they had four children.She later married William Corcoran.

She was a homemaker the majority of her life.She worked for a short time as a waitress at the Highland Cafe in West Glacier and later at Sykes in Kalispell. She also did janitorial work at the Deer Park School.

She enjoyed sewing and gardening, especially her flowers. In later years she was called "Weed Picker" on the CB.

Bill preceded her in death in 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers; Willard, Lloyd, Kenneth (Paul) and Melvin, and sisters Florence Lietz, Iris Koterba and Connie Kirby; her daughter Marilyn Opalka and a great-grandson Eugene T.C. Strowbridge.

She is survived by her children Ron (Jean) Levang of Columbia Falls, Verona Harshbarger and Judy (Gene) Strowbridge of Martin City; son-in-law Bill Opalka (Donna) of Davis, Calif.; her two step-sons, Ron Corcoran of Columbia Falls and Dick (Karen) Corcoran of Kila; 25 grandchildren; her brother Charles (Mable) Grantham of Thompson Falls and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 6, 2010 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery. Rev. Darrel Newby officiating.
