The Lady Bulldog tennis team continued their winning ways Saturday in Ronan when they knocked off the Madiens 5-2 in a conference dual.

Whitefish swept the singles matches convincingly and tallied a win in the No. 3 doubles slot despite less-than-ideal conditions in the Mission Valley.

"It was good to see all the singles win with the weather conditions they were playing in," Lady Bulldog coach Mike Watson said. "It was cold, windy and the girls had to play with dust in their eyes.

"This is two wins in a row for us. Hopefully it's the start of something good."

Meredith Reed, playing in the No. 1 slot, worked Amber Thetzger for a 6-3, 6-3 win, and Anne Miller at No. 2 cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Darian Lee.

"Anne did well serving in the weather," Watson said. "She got the serves in and was just more athletic. She never gets tired out there."

Courtney Wilder won a battle at No. 3 with Katelyn Matkovich, taking the first set 6-2 before dropping the second in a tiebreaker 6-7 (7-2). Wilder rallied nicely in the third to wrap up the win with a 7-2 set.

Watson commended freshman Kendall Sattler's play at the No. 4 slot. She topped Tashina Barnaby 6-4, 6-0 to earn her first win of the season.

"It's good to see her get the win," Watson said. "It should boost her confidence a little bit."

The freshman duo of Ryan Chauner and Haley Craven scored the lone doubles win for Whitefish with a 6-1, 6-4 romp over Janelle Lauer and Kylee Pennington.

The girls travel to Polson on Friday for a league dual.

Watson says the key to beating the always-tough Pirates will be to take advantage of opportunities.

"They don't make many mistakes," he said. "We have to play errorless tennis."

In a schedule note, the Columbia Falls dual canceled last week has been reset for May 11 in Columbia Falls at 3:30 p.m.
