Carlson breaks record at Top 10 meet

In her final weeks at Bigfork High School, Kayla Carlson continues to leave her mark in the world of high school running in Montana, and after Tuesday's Russ Pilcher Western Montana Top 10 meet, she has yet another accomplishment to add to her list — a new record.

Carlson broke the meet's record in the 1600-meter with her time of 5:05.02. The previous record was set in 2006 by Shannon Flynn of Townsend. The Bigfork senior also won the 800-meter having finished in 2:19.82, less than one second ahead of Hamilton's Misha Trotter.

Mallery Knoll picked up two second-place finishes at the meet. She was clocked in 13.09 in the 100-meter and 45.98 in the 300-meter hurdles.

Keenan Evans also had a good showing at the meet, which athletes must qualify to participate in by having one of the 10 best times or distances in an event in Western Montana. Evans placed third in the 100-meter and fourth in the 200-meter boys races.

Quinci Paine ran the 400-meter in 62.90 and earned fifth place among the girls.

The Bigfork boys 400-meter relay team of Derek Minemyer, Evans, Ian Lorang and Travis Knoll picked up a fifth place finish as well with their time of 44.85.
