Candidate pleads guilty to disorderly conduct

Shawn Bailey, the Constitutional Party candidate for House District 3 recently pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct stemming from a Dec. 10 incident where police used a Taser on him.

Bailey, 34, of Columbia Falls was arrested after he allegedly pounded on the windows of the Bandit Bar in an intoxicated state. The bar staff called police and an altercation between police and Bailey ensued.

Bailey allegedly pulled out a knife and police pulled out their guns.

“The only way I’m leaving here is if you shoot me or kill me,” Bailey allegedly told police at the time.

Bailey then took off his shirt but threw the knife across the street, according to the original police report.

Police then used a Taser to subdue him and charged him with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Bailey was fined $185 and given a 10-day suspended sentence on the disorderly conduct charge in Columbia Falls City Court.

He was also ordered to pay attorney’s fees.

Bailey did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment on the matter.

But in a recent interview given to the Hungry Horse News for a candidate profile for House District 3 coverage, Bailey said folks need to follow the law.

He said that the United States, a constitutional republic, is a nation of laws and its people should follow the law.

“We are to follow the rule of law, not the whims of the majority,” he said. “In a constitutional republic, the rights of the minority are protected. The Founding Fathers were totally against democracy. Nowhere is it mentioned in the Declaration or Constitution.”
