Alpine team third in Northern series

| April 8, 2010 11:00 PM

Skiers from the Whitefish Mountain Resort Alpine Race Team competed in the Northern Division Alpine Championship at Bridger Bowl Ski Area on April 2 and 3.

The championship events concluded a season-long series that included races at Whitefish Mountain Resort, Montana Snowbowl, Big Sky Ski Resort and Bridger Bowl. The Whitefish Team took the third-place team trophy for its accomplishment throughout the series.

In Friday's giant slalom at Bridger, Anna Jobe led the Whitefish team with a second-place finish in the 13-14 age class. Madeline Williams was third in the 15-16 age group, Erin Tabish finished in fourth place for the 13-14 group, and Nevada Kramer and Nick Becker were seventh and eighth respectively in the 13-14 age group.

Saturday's slalom was challenging, with new snow falling throughout the contest. The Bridger course crew worked extremely hard to provide a very fair and safe race despite the conditions.

Jobe and Williams finished strong in the slalom with a second place in their respective age groups. Tabish posted the fasted first run in her age group and was fourth overall in a race that included girls from the Montana State University ski team.

Kramer and Becker, skiing consistently, placed sixth and seventh. They will ski another year in the 13-14 age class

The Northern Division Series determines qualifiers for the Junior Olympics and the Western Region Championship races. Jobe and Tabish qualified for and competed in the Junior Olympics held in Bend Oregon. Michela Millette competed in the Western Regional Championships, held in Schweitzer Basin, Idaho.
