Lynn Carlson

A memorial service will be held for Lynn Carlson, who died Aug. 25, 2009, at the All Saints Episcopal Church on Sunday, Oct. 11, beginning at 2 p.m. The church is located at 2048 Conn Road, which is off Highway 40 about halfway between Whitefish and Columbia Falls.

Delia Burow

Delia Burow, 100, a longtime resident of the north valley, died Oct. 2, 2009,in Whitefish.

She was born at St. John, N.D., on Dec. 8, 1908, the daughter of Francois and Alphonsine (Vivier) St. Germaine. She was raised in St. John and later attended parochial school at Devils Lake.

She married Carl R. Burow in 1933 at St. John. She and her husband and family came to the Flathead Valley in 1948, residing at Olney and Whitefish.

Delia remained a devoted mother and grandmother to the end of her life, always there for her family. Among her greatest joys were visits with friends and family, where she always practiced the gift of hospitality and sharing her talents as an excellent cook and baker. Delia loved to travel and, earlier in her life, liked to snowshoe, quilt, crochet and garden.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carl; two children, Michael and Carl, Jr.; six brothers; and six sisters.

Surviving Delia are her children Jean Bauer and husband Robert, of Kalispell, Katherine Graham and husband Kenneth, of Whitefish, and Ronald Burow and wife Kathy, of Kalispell; 19 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and numerous great great grandchildren.

Services took place Oct. 6, 2009, at the Austin Funeral Home. Rite of interment followed at Glacier Memorial Gardens.

Betty Truman

Betty A. Truman, 75, of Rexford, died Oct. 2, 2009, at Health Center Northwest, in Kalispell.

She was born on March 16, 1934, in Whitefish, the daughter of Henry and Grace (Rhine) Elam. She grew up and attended school through the 11th grade in Whitefish.

Betty married Alvin Truman on Nov. 5, 1951, in Missoula. They made their home in Rexford and the West Kootenai.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading and watching UFC and "Dancing with the Stars." She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and TOPS and was the secretary of the Tobacco Valley Ridge Riders.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin "Dutch" Truman; son Allen Truman; grandson Tyrell Truman; great grandson Evan Perkins; and brothers Richard Elam and Jerry Elam.

Survivors include her children Debbie Truman, of Eureka, Ron Truman and wife Connie, of Eureka, Shelley Wells and husband Ray, of Rexford, Cheryl Evjene, of Eureka, Mike Truman, of Eureka, Terry Truman, of Eureka, and Lyle Truman and wife Pamela, of Rexford; sisters Pat Christensen, of Kalispell, and Judy Beecher, of Whitefish; brother Vernon Elam and wife Joan, of Kalispell; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009 (today), at 2 p.m. at the Church of God in Eureka. Visitation will take place Thursday morning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Schnackenberg & Nelson Funeral Home in Eureka.

Verna Giles

Verna Jean Giles, 84, died Oct. 2, 2009, at her home near Whitefish.

She was born in Missouri on Oct. 5, 1924, to James and Mary Roberts.

Verna married Otis "Dude" Giles on Feb. 2, 1938, in California. They resided in California, where she enjoyed sewing, doing crafts and most especially making a home for her family.

She and her husband came to Montana in 1982 to be near their sons and families.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dude in 1999 and her son Larry.

Surviving Verna are her son Robert Giles, wife Susan and their family, Lisa and Bobby, and their children Colter, Austin and Hailey, all of Whitefish; and her son Larry's daughter Keirsten, of Whitefish.

Memorials in Verna's memory may be made to Hospice.

Erik Nyquist

Erik B. Nyquist, 35, died Sept. 30, 2009, at his home in Whitefish.

He was born in Oak Park, Ill., on Jan. 26, 1974, to Carl and Nelly Nyquist. He moved with his family to southern California, where he was raised and educated in Orange County.

Erik had been a resident of the Flathead Valley for more than a decade, residing in Whitefish for the past six years where he had worked as a painting contractor.

Surviving him are his parents Carl and Nelly Nyquist, of Fullerton, Calif., and his brother Grant, of San Diego, Calif.

A private family gathering and visitation was held Oct. 3, 2009, at Austin Funeral Home, in Whitefish.
