Things to think about with pets

| November 26, 2009 10:00 PM

To the editor,

I go to Columbia Falls Junior High. We had an English assignment to explain what we would change locally or globally. One of the things I want to change is the number of animals going to pounds and shelters because they were abused or abandoned.

February of 2008 my family went to the Kalispell pound to get another dog. It was sad to hear the story of a dog, not even 2 years old, who had been stranded on Miracle Mountain for five months.

Things to remember if you're getting a pet, or already have one:

Do you have money for food, vet, brushes, etc.?

Do you have a place for the pet to play, walk, etc.?

Do you have time for your pet?

If you have other pets, will they get along with the new one?

Make sure you neuter and spay your pets.

Practice wellness checkups.

Play with your pet.

There are just little steps that can make a difference.
