Babe Ruth team wins 8th in a row

Bigfork's Babe Ruth Baseball team extended their winning streak to eight last week, having not lost since their season opener on May 1 to Montana Build.

Last Thursday they hosted Hills Brothers of Whitefish and won 6-5, which is the same final score the teams had when they met earlier this month.

"They are a tough team," said Bigfork Babe Ruth Baseball Head Coach James LaFontaine. "Score-wise they are the toughest team we have faced."

Kyle Parker pitched the first four innings and gave up six hits, five runs and three walks, and he struck out four batters. Cody Dopps pitched the remaining four innings and didn't give up any hits, walked three batters and struck out seven.

While batting, Parker hit one-for-one, was walked twice, had one run and one RBI. Dopps was two-for-three and had two runs.

"We hit the ball hard to the outfield a lot, but it kept going right to their fielders and they made the catches," LaFontaine said of the close score.

Bigfork was to host Columbia Falls' Les Schwab team last Tuesday, but it was rained out and moved to Wednesday. Bigfork won 13-3 in six innings after the mercy rule was put into effect.

Mitchel Harsh pitched the first four innings and allowed two hits and one run, and he struck out five batters. Brett Sward pitched the remaining two innings, in which Columbia Falls got two hits and two runs off him, and he struck out three of their batters.

Bigfork scored in every inning of the game.

Luke LaFontaine led Bigfork at the plate. He hit three-for-three, and had two runs and two RBIs. Harsh hit two-for-four, had three RBIs and one run. Conner Coleman was two-for-three and had two RBIs and one run. Ryan Hays was walked twice, made it home twice and had two stolen bases.

"We hit a lot of balls and we pitched really well," coach LaFontaine said. "It was Brett's first time pitching and he did a great job for his first time on the mound. Mitchel was solid for us once again in his pitching."

Bigfork hosted Blue Moon of Columbia Falls yesterday, May 27. The results will be in next week's paper.

They travel to Whitefish tomorrow, May 29, to take on First Interstate. Saturday Bigfork will host Sports Medicine of Whitefish at noon and next Tuesday is their last home game and it will be against MacKenzie River at 6 p.m. All home games take place at Bear Creek Field.
