John Fraley will present an audio-visual program on his newest book, Wild River Pioneers, during a Brown Bag lunchtime seminar in the West Glacier Community Building in Glacier National Park on Thursday, May 28, from noon to 1 p.m. Fraley is a local historical writer and the information and education program manager for Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Region 1 office in Kalispell. ìWild River Pioneersî tells about the exciting pioneer history of the Middle Fork of the Flathead River drainage within Glacier Park and the Great Bear Wilderness. Fraleyís presentation will focus on George Snyder, with some glimpses of Josephine Doodyís life.

Flathead Valley Community College Theatre will host auditions on Friday, May 29, beginning at 6 p.m. for two summer theater. Londonís longest-running comedy, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), is an anthology based on all 37 of Shakespeareís plays performed in 97 minutes. Dracula: The Musical is a cliche-filled story written by Rick Abbot which centers on Count Dracula's attempt to take over the Seward family insane asylum and Dr. Van Helsing's attempts to stop him. A celebration of life for Susan Christofferson will take place in the Flathead Valley Community Collegeís Arts & Technology Building on Saturday, May 30, at 2 p.m. Christofferson was a co-founder of the Nurturing Center in Kalispell, a family resource center whose mission is to provide supportive, respectful services that strengthen families, increasing the number of children raised in healthy, nurturing environments. Flathead Audubon will lead an early morning birding trip in Glacier National Park on Saturday, May 30. The trip will focus on identifying neotropical migrants by sight and ear. Participants may find harlequin ducks, vireos, warblers, black-backed woodpeckers, olive-sided flycatchers and northern hawk owls. Meet at the Alberta Visitor Center in West Glacier at 6 a.m. and return at noon. Participation is limited. To sign up, call Steve Gniadek at 892-7406.

The Flathead County animal shelter, 225 Cemetery Road, south of Kalispell, will hold an open house on Saturday, May 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with adoption specials, a vaccination clinic (dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a cat carrier), educational mini-seminars and refreshments.
