Lady Bulldogs claim two big victories

The Lady Bulldogs played their best game of the season so far on Saturday, drilling Browning 12-0 to move to 3-4 in Western A conference action and 5-7 overall.

Carolyn Sharpe fanned nine batters on her way to getting the win. She also went 1-for-3 from the plate.

The game ended on an exciting note in the fifth inning. Third-baseman Hailey Mortensen blasted a three-run, walk-off home-run to end the game on the 10-run mercy rule.

Mortensen's blast came with two outs and was her second of the season. She finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs. The 'Dogs scored seven runs in the fifth frame.

Kaitlyn Wehrli had a big day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs. Madison Tveidt went 3-for-4. Caitlin McCoy made her first varsity start in left field to replace injured starter Adele FauntLeRoy.

Injuries have been a factor for Whitefish this year, as former starter Taylor Ybarra-Brunty is still out as well.

Head coach Alan Compton said before Saturday's game that he knew his team was capable of coming up with big games.

"If they play like they know how, the wins are going to start coming," he said.

The game was played in Whitefish on Saturday due to huge amounts of snowfall on the east side of the Divide. The Lady Running Indians were only able to field nine players.

On Friday, the Whitefish girls took down Class B Eureka 16-2 on the road. Sharpe held the Lady Lions to six singles and went 4-for-5 from the plate.

Tveidt went 3-for-4 from the plate and drove in one run. Mortensen had a double, Emma Baldonado had an RBI, and Nicole Schelling went 1-for-3.

The Lady 'Dogs travel to Anaconda on Thursday for a nonconference match-up with the Lady Copperheads.
