Man killed, trooper injured in crash

A 29-year-old man was killed and Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Mike Haynes was seriously injured in a two-vehicle head-on collision early Monday morning on U.S. 93 north of Somers.

According to the patrol, the man was driving a Volkswagen northbound in the southbound lane when the collision with Haynes' cruiser occurred about 2:40 a.m. Haynes, 28, was transported to Kalispell Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the Volkswagen, whose name was not released, died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
