Products recalled due to possible salmonella risk

The following recalls have been announced because the products may be contaminated with salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems:

Rocky Mountain Foods Inc. is recalling tubs of Whole Foods Markets roasted and salted in-shell pistachios, roasted chili lemon pistachios and raw pistachio kernels. The company said it has not received any confirmed reports of illnesses.

The recalled pistachios have been packaged under the Whole Foods Markets brand in Whole Foods Markets retail stores. For more information, consumers can call 303-371-3511, ext. 15.

_ Whole Foods Markets, roasted chili lemon pistachios in-shell; 13 ounce tub; best by dates: 3/16/09 to 10/16/09; item code: 661301; UPC 7695861301. This product was distributed to California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Utah.

_ Whole Foods Markets, raw pistachio kernels; 14 ounce tub; best by dates: 9/15/09 to 4/9/10; item code: 661227; UPC 7695861227. This product was distributed to California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico and Utah.

Albanese Confectionery Group Inc. is recalling products containing pistachios. No illnesses have been reported to the company. The pistachio products were sold and distributed by Albanese Confectionery Group, Inc. nationwide, through e-mail orders, phone orders and faxed orders. Texas Pecan Co. is recalling all products containing pistachios (raw kernels, roasted/salted kernels, roasted/salted natural in shell and roasted/salted chili lemon in shell). No illnesses have been reported, according to the company. The recalled pistachios were distributed nationwide through mail order, Internet order and sold in the company's retail store. GNS Foods Inc. is recalling products containing pistachios. No complaints or illnesses have been reported, according to the company.
