Olden takes over at Yankee Stadium announcer

| March 19, 2009 11:00 PM

NEW YORK - Paul Olden is taking over as the Yankee Stadium public address announcer in the absence of Bob Sheppard.

Sheppard, who is in his late 90s, has not worked a game since late in the 2007 season due to a bronchial infection, although he did record the lineups at his home for the final game at the original Yankee Stadium last September.

Jim Hall, his longtime backup, filled in for the remainder of 2007 and last year.

Olden worked as a Yankees television broadcaster in 1995-96 and also has called games on radio for Cleveland (1988-89), the California Angels (1991) and Tampa Bay (1998-04). He is a 12-time Super Bowl public address announcer.

The Yankees said Olden would take over until Sheppard fully recovers and can resume his role.
