McGinn returns, Mitchell hoping to rejoin Sharks

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Sharks recalled left wing Jamie McGinn from their Worcester AHL affiliate for the postseason on Monday, and center Torrey Mitchell also is hoping to rejoin the Sharks during the playoffs after missing the entire regular season with leg injuries.

McGinn had four goals and two assists in 35 games as a rookie with the Sharks this season, frequently filling in for the Sharks' many injured veterans. He also had 30 points in 47 games with the Worcester Sharks.

Mitchell played all 82 games for San Jose as a rookie last season, scoring 20 points. He hasn't suited up this season after breaking his leg on the second day of training camp and then re-injuring the leg in January.

Mitchell participated in practice with the Sharks on Monday, and he'll travel with the team next week for first-round road playoff games in Anaheim.

"We're hoping he'll be available to us at some point," coach Todd McLellan said. "If we feel he can help us, and he's prepared and ready to go, it only makes common sense to use him. Torrey, he's like an Energizer bunny. It's like somebody winds him up, and he just goes and goes."

San Jose played the final weeks of the regular season without several injured veterans, but every player was on the ice at Monday's practice.

Jonathan Cheechoo said he's ready after missing the final two regular-season games with an undisclosed injury, and 43-year-old Claude Lemieux feels perfectly healthy after missing 18 games in the stretch run with a jaw injury.
