Chris Peterson, a photographer at the Hungry Horse News, will talk about “Confessions of a Wildlife Observer” during a Brown Bag lunchtime seminar in the West Glacier Community Building in Glacier National Park’s Headquarters area on Thursday, June 18, from noon to 1 p.m. Peterson, who’s been photographing the Park’s flora and fauna for the past 11 years, will take a light-hearted look at the natural world as a wildlife observer. The show will include photographs of loons, mountain goats, pikas, river otters, and other wild animals.

The 16th annual Fishing Without Barriers Day, sponsored by the Montana Fish, Wildlife, Parksí Crossing the Barriers Committee and the Montana Charter Boat Association, will be held on Flathead Lake on Thursday, June 18. Anglers with disabilities will be hosted for free fishing trips on charter boats and boats provided by volunteers. Slots are available for anglers with disabilities, especially for anglers under 18 years of age. The event includes a barbecue, a lake trout fish fry and lots of prizes. The National Parks Conservation Association will present artwork created for Glacier National Park’s centennial celebration in 2010 during a fundraiser at the Fischworks showroom, 201 East Second Street, in Whitefish, on Friday, June 19, beginning at 5:30 p.m. There will be hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine.

The Agency on Aging will host an Older Americans Day Picnic in the Flathead County Fairgrounds’ new Expo Building on Friday, June 19, beginning at 10 a.m. with entertainment by Tra La Gael and an RSVP awards presentation. Flathead Valley residents can spend a few hours, or a day, changing their corner of the world as part of the National Day of Action, with local work scheduled for June 19 and 20 this year. The National Day of Action is a time when millions of Americans across the country spend one day making their communities a better place to live, one person at a time. The local United Way Volunteer Center is coordinating this annual nationwide event, and is seeking both projects and volunteers. The 13th annual “Rafting for Refuse Day,” sponsored by Montana Raft Co., will take place Saturday, June 20 to clean up public river-access points on the North and Middle forks of the Flathead River. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. at Montana Raft Co. on U.S. Highway 2 in West Glacier. All necessary equipment for rafting, shuttles to and from the river, and professional guides leading each crew will be provided, but volunteers should bring water bottles and work gloves. The Kalispell Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will teach a class in boating safety at the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks building in Kalispell on Saturday, June 20, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with an hour for lunch. The class will cover equipment, rules, handling, navigation, rivers, fishing and hunting, and will satisfy license requirements for 13- and 14-year-olds. The Museum at Central School in Kalispell will hold a pie social and quilt raffle on Sunday, June 21, from 2-5 p.m. The two raffle quilts, on display at the museum, feature traditional quilt designs.
