The Columbia Falls Lions Club meets at 6:30 a.m. on the first and third Thursdays each month at the Back Room, in the same building as the Nite Owl Restaurant. Contact a Lions Club member for information about joining the organization.

Singer-songwriter Reverend John DeLore will be featured during First Friday Music tomorrow (June 5) at Montana Coffee Traders at the Pines, located at 30 9th St. W. in Columbia Falls. DeLore makes the stop during his Amtrak American Urn Tour while promoting his new album. Doors open for dinner at 6 p.m. The Trapline Quartet, a local group, brings their lively musicality to the Pines at 6:30 p.m. The performance by DeLore will follow, then there is a jam session with DeLore and the Trapline Quartet.

Saturday

The Northwest Montana Gold Prospectors holds their Spring Kickoff on Saturday, June 6 starting at 10 a.m. southeast of Columbia Falls. There will be demonstrations of equipment, a metal detector contest for children and adults, kids’ games, couples panning contests, a raffle and delicious pot luck dinner at noon. This event is free and open to the public. Vendors are welcome. Follow the signs and balloons on Bernie Road, off Highway 206 in Columbia Heights. Call 892-3722 or 261-9326 for more details.

Local historian John Fraley will be the guest speaker at a Columbia Falls Historical Society event Tuesday, June 9 at 7 p.m. at the North Valley Hospital Community Center, 235 Nucleus Ave. Fraley is the author of Wild River Pioneers, a book depicting local history. The Back Country Horsemen of the Flathead will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 9 at the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Building, located at 490 N. Meridian Road (across from the fairgrounds) in Kalispell. There will be a trailer backing and safety talk from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with the general meeting starting at 7:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public and everyone is welcome. The Back Country Horsemen is a volunteer organization that is dedicated to protecting stockowners’ use of wilderness and backcountry trails, education of horse owners on Leave-No-Trace principles and support to back country agencies.
