Cheers for Volunteers

Peter "Pete" Fauske volunteers at the Whitefish Community Center (formerly Golden Agers). He and Ardella, his wife of 55 years, have three children, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She, too, volunteers at the center.

Pete was born in Whitefish and retired after 45 years as a railroader. He has volunteered at the center for many years — his co-workers say "he has been there forever."

He originally was the all-around handyman whom they called on when anything went wrong, but recently he has concentrated more on delivering Meals on Wheels.

Pete volunteers because he likes people. While growing up, he associated with older folks and feels that he learned a lot from them. Now he sees some of those same friends as shut-ins or confined to wheelchairs, and he is grateful that he is now in a position to help them in their time of need.

Co-workers relate that he is 'really good" and a 'very caring person." They point out that when he delivers meals, he stops and chats with the shut-ins and reports back if he observes any special needs.

Pete believes the center, which relies entirely on volunteers to perform its various functions, is the perfect place to meet people and make lasting friendships.

Pete, you have brought comfort and happiness to many of our citizens, and we thank you.
