Coco named Mont. Gatorade X-country runner of the year

Whitefish's Drew Coco was named the 2008-09 Gatorade Montana Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

The senior distance runner won the Montana Class A meet in Missoula this past season with a time of 15:26.88, faster than any runner in any class that day.

His first-place finish helped lead the Bulldog boys team to a 12th-place finish.

Coco also won the North-western A divisional meet and was undefeated within state competition.

He notched 17th place at the Nike Cross Nationals Northwest Regionals this past fall as well.

Coco maintains a 3.16 GPA and is the senior class president at Whitefish. He has earned the rank of Eagle Scout and volunteers his time both locally and internationally.

Coco has plans to attend the U.S. Naval Academy Prep School.
